North Central Academy Families,

As we embark upon our winter break, we wanted to take a moment to say “Thank You”. Your dedication and support are integral to strengthening the supportive community environment that we strive to create here at NCA. We are proud to have each and every one of you as partners in the educational journey of your students. Please know how much we truly appreciate everything that you do for the school. North Central Academy would not be the same without your care, concern and involvement. From our family to yours, we hope that you all have a safe and happy winter break.

The North Central Academy Staff

Meet the future surgeons of NCA! Students participated in a hands on discection of grashoppers and earth worms in Ms. Monroe's Biology class.

With winter weather upon us, it is important that all of our families take a moment to familiarize themselves with North Central Academy’s snow day protocols.

Because our students reside in a large geographical area, many factors are considered before the school is closed. The closing of Alba, Mancelona, Gaylord, Kalkaska or Bellaire schools does not automatically mean that NCA is closed. Please, pay attention to the notification platforms listed below, to verify if we are closed or running on schedule.

Notification Platforms

  • School Messenger: you will receive a call via the School Messenger system for all snow days. These calls are prefaced with a pre-recorded, automated message. The system contacts the numbers listed for home, mother’s day phone and father’s day phone. If you are not getting School Messenger calls, you will need to contact the office and update your telephone information.

  • Television: Watch for our closings on 9&10 News7&4/TV 29&8

  • Radio: Keep an ear tuned to the local radio stations including WTCM, WLIN, WKPK, WKHQ, and the Interlochen NPR station.

  • Facebook: Closings will also be listed on our school Facebook page. If you do not already follow us, head on over to the site and give us a like!

Notification Time

  • We will make every effort to have notifications sent out by 6:00 a.m. to give families ample time to make arrangements. Please understand that while we strive to adhere to this schedule, there may be times when notifications are released later in the morning.

At Bay City Academy and North Central Academy, we strive to keep our families and students informed of the events, cancellations, and other important happenings. We utilize lots of different methods to help ensure the messages get into the right hands. With that goal in mind, we are implementing a new system – SchoolMessenger.

The SchoolMessenger notification service is able send important information to families through phone calls, emails, and text messages. You may have already received some phone messages from us. Below are some important notifications about this service:

1. This service uses the telephone numbers and email addresses that are in PowerSchool (our student records system). Please make sure to notify us of any changes to your phone number or email so that we can ensure you continue to receive important communications.

2. Starting November 9th, 2015, we will be automating phone calls regarding absences. Once morning attendance has been take, the system will place the calls, starting at 9:00 am. for any student with an unexcused absence.

3. This service has the ability to send text/SMS messages to cellular phones. Federal government regulations require that you Opt-In to receive messages from BCA and NCA. Please review the information below regarding this process.

To comply with wireless carrier requirements and protect against unsolicited text messages, you will receive a text/SMS message to the wireless cell phone number that the district has on file requesting that you opt in to receive important information from the district via text/SMS message.

The message you receive will be similar to the following:

"Bay City Academy messages. Reply Y for aprx
3 msgs/mo. Txt HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates
may apply. Visit"

So that you can continue to receive these important messages from BCA and NCA, we encourage you to reply with "Y" or "Yes" or "OPTIN" when you receive this verification message.
To opt out of all text messages from SchoolMessenger, visit or reply with STOP to the opt-in message that you receive. If you opt in, but decide to opt out later on, you may also reply "STOP" to any message or send "STOP" to 68453.

Standard text messaging rates may apply. Bay City Academy and North Central Academy are not responsible for charges that may be incurred for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges.
