This a friendly reminder that classes are in session all day December 19, 2016 through December 21, 2016. Students will be dismissed promptly at 3:15pm on Wednesday December 21, 2016. In order to allow students, faculty and staff to get a jumpstart on their winter break plans, we ask that parents who pick their children up strive to be at the school by 3:15pm. Winter break runs from Thursday, December 22, 2016 through Monday, January 2, 2017. Classes resume promptly at 8:00 am on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 If you have any questions, please contact our office at 231-584-2080
It is with much excitement that we announce the formation of the NCA Ski and Snowboard club! At this time, the club has plans to venture to both Treetops Resort in Gaylord and Schuss Mountain in Bellaire. The club is open to 3rd through 12th grade students, their siblings and family members. In order to be eligible for the ski and snowboard club, students must have passing grades in all of their classes and be in good behavioral standing. Students who are in 3rd through 7th grade are required to have a parent or guardian with them in order to attend the ski nights. 8th through 12th grade students may ski without a parent or guardian, but are required to pass a basic skills test before getting on a chair lift. Students who fail to pass the skills test will be required to take a lesson before using a chair lift. Lessons are currently only available at Treetops resort and start at 4:30pm.

The club will be arranging a carpool for getting students to the resort, however it is the parent or guardian's responsibility to pick their student up from the resort, or arrange other transportation to get them home after the ski outing. Currently, the schedule is as listed below. If we have solid participation and interest, more dates may be added. Families interested in participating in the Ski and Snowboard Club should contact Mr. Travis Ash directly, via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. With winter weather upon us, it is important that all of our families take a moment to familiarize themselves with North Central Academy’s snow day protocols.

Because our students reside in a large geographical area, many factors are considered before the school is closed. The closing of Alba, Mancelona, Gaylord, Kalkaska or Bellaire schools does not automatically mean that NCA is closed. Please, pay attention to the notification platforms listed below, to verify if we are closed or running on schedule.

Notification Platforms

  • School Messenger: you will receive a call via the School Messenger system for all snow days. These calls are prefaced with a pre-recorded, automated message. The system contacts the numbers listed for home, mother’s day phone and father’s day phone. If you are not getting School Messenger calls, you will need to contact the office and update your telephone information.

  • Television: Watch for our closings on 9&10 News7&4/TV 29&8

  • Radio: Keep an ear tuned to the local radio stations including WTCM, WLIN, WKPK, WKHQ, and the Interlochen NPR station.

  • Facebook: Closings will also be listed on our school Facebook page. If you do not already follow us, head on over to the site and give us a like!

Notification Time

  • We will make every effort to have notifications sent out by 6:00 a.m. to give families ample time to make arrangements. Please understand that while we strive to adhere to this schedule, there may be times when notifications are released later in the morning.

Parent teacher conferences will be held this week at NCA. Elementary conference times should be scheduled with your student’s teacher. If you have not already done so, please return your conference slip, email your student’s teacher, or contact the office at 231-584-2080 to schedule a time.

Secondary conferences will follow the same format as last year. Parents are encouraged to arrive during the scheduled conference times and rotate through the secondary staff to get a well-rounded view of how their student is performing.

Conference times are as follows:

  • Thursday, November 17th from 3:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Friday, November 18th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Friday, November 18th is a half-day for students, dismissal is at 12:15pm

The PTO will be hosting a winter clothing swap at a later date. Drop off for swap items will be held in conjunction with conferences. For each clean, gently used item dropped off at your student’s classroom, you will receive a claim ticket. These tickets may then be redeemed for items at the clothing swap. Items eligible for this swap are jackets, snow pants, snow suits and boots. Please, no hats, scarves or gloves.
